Tanzmenschen is an artistic work based on the ideas of Oskar Schlemmer, particularly his sketches of the famous Triadic Ballet. The piece interprets Schlemmer’s original approach by engaging with the three artistic disciplines of drawing, sculpture, and performance. This triad is also the central mechanism of the work, much like in the original ballet, where Schlemmer explored the relationship between movement, space, and form.
Schlemmer’s Triadic Ballet was a groundbreaking piece in modern dance history, merging geometric shapes, abstraction, and the human body into a unified expression. In this reinterpretation, that spirit is preserved by transforming human dancers into sculptures that move through space.
The five elements, each with its own title, may symbolically represent different aspects of the connection between dance, visual art, and sculpture. “Tanzmenschen” seems to pay homage to Schlemmer’s vision, dissolving the boundaries between art forms and making human movement itself into sculpture.
