The work “Leviathan the Sealed Oracle” is inspired by Herman Melville’s novel Moby-Dick. In this novel, the white whale, Moby Dick, embodies the untamed force of nature, relentlessly hunted by the manically driven Captain Ahab. The battle between the egocentric human and the untamable nature in Moby-Dick is clearly won by nature. On a formal level, “Leviathan the Sealed Oracle” employs the preservation technique using honey, which Cleomenes of Sparta used for the head of his friend Archonides, who then served him as an oracle. However, instead of a human head, this work places the white whale, Moby Dick, in the role of the oracle.
