From Dust Till Dawn was created during a three-month studio residency in Egypt. Its basis was a research on the “Wadi-el-Hol” script, which is one of the earliest discovered alphabets. This code is therefore crucial for the development from pictographic writing (e.g., hieroglyphs) to abstract symbols. From Dust Till Dawn studies the code in an initial step on an aesthetic level through drawings.
In a second phase of the work, the Egyptian dancer Abdelrahman Ahmed and I used its historical significance in connection with autobiographical experiences of the city of Cairo to create a dance choreography. The video was filmed on a rooftop in Cairo during sunset.

Video directed and choreographed by Wassili Widmer, performed by Abdelrahman Ahmed
